Here’s how to look (and feel!) your best during your bridal boudoir photoshoot.
1. Focus on Feeling Good, Not Being Perfect
Looking your best starts with feeling comfortable in your own skin. In the days leading up to your session, prioritize whatever helps you feel rested, grounded, and confident. Get enough sleep, stay hydrated, and give yourself permission to slow down.
You do not need to transform yourself before your bridal boudoir session. You simply need to arrive as yourself.
2. Choose Outfits That Make You Feel Incredible
The best wardrobe choices are not necessarily the most revealing. They are the pieces that make you look in the mirror and immediately feel like yourself.
Choose lingerie, a robe, bridal accessories, or even something unexpected that makes you feel confident and comfortable. Pay attention to fit rather than the size on the tag. Pieces that fit your body well will photograph beautifully and allow you to move comfortably during your session.
Your bridal boudoir wardrobe should enhance you, not make you feel like you are performing as someone else.
3. Professional Bridal Hair & Makeup
Professional hair and makeup are part of the transformation. Many of my clients wear very little makeup in their everyday lives, and some rarely wear makeup at all. For them, sitting in the glam chair can be an entirely new experience.
Jojo, my makeup artist with more than 20 years of professional experience, describes our approach perfectly: “It’s you, but elevated.” The goal is not to cover you up or make you look like someone else. It is to take the woman who walked into the studio and create an elevated version of her that fits the mood and fantasy we are creating together.
Boudoir makeup is also intentionally different from traditional bridal makeup. I do not recommend simply recreating your wedding-day look for your boudoir session. Bridal makeup often needs a more matte, long-wearing finish designed for an entire wedding day. For boudoir, we can lean into luminous, dewy skin and a softer sensuality.
Those details matter. Dewy skin can create the subtle appearance of being warm and flushed, adding another layer of intimacy to the photographs. A client may never consciously think about why that detail changes the mood of an image, but when the photographs are being created as an intimate gift for a spouse, those visual cues can contribute to the sensuality of the final story.
Hair, makeup, wardrobe, posing, lighting, and expression are not separate pieces of the experience. They work together to create the fantasy while still allowing you to recognize yourself in every photograph.
4. Don’t Worry About Posing, We’ve Got You
You do not need to know how to pose before your bridal boudoir session. Every part of the experience is guided, from your body positioning and movement to your hands and facial expressions. We’ll coach you through poses designed to photograph beautifully while still feeling natural and authentic to you.
You don’t need modeling experience, flexibility, or practice in front of a camera. Your job is simply to show up. We’ll guide you through the rest.
5. Trust Your Photographer
Beautiful boudoir photography is about more than posing your body. Your facial expressions, especially your eyes, help tell the story of the image. They can communicate confidence, sensuality, connection, desire, and the feeling of being completely comfortable in your own skin.
Throughout your session, you’ll be coached through more than where to place your hands or how to position your body. You’ll also receive guidance on your eyes, facial expressions, and the emotion behind the pose so the final image feels intentional rather than simply posed.
Some of that direction may feel funny in the moment, and there may be plenty of laughter between photographs. That is part of the experience. You can be laughing with us one moment and creating a sensual, seductive expression for the camera the next. You never have to figure any of it out on your own.
6. Get Out of Your Head and Into the Experience
It is completely normal to feel nervous before a bridal boudoir session. In the glam room, I tell my clients the same thing: get out of your head. I can guide your body into the poses I need, but if you are overthinking every movement or worrying about how you look, that tension can show in your expression.
That is why creating the right atmosphere matters. We play your favorite music, especially the songs that make you feel confident, sexy, and completely yourself. We laugh. We talk. And gradually, the camera becomes less important than how you feel in the moment.
For clients who are especially nervous, I may start the session on the swing. There is no pressure to pose. You are simply moving, enjoying the feeling of flying, and letting yourself have fun. Before you realize it, your body has relaxed, your expression has softened, and we are creating photographs.
You do not have to arrive feeling fearless. You just have to arrive. We will help you with the rest.
